About

A field guide for people who take coffee seriously.

Brew Me Slowly is an independent guide to specialty coffee shops around the world. We started it because every "best coffee in [city]" list we found online was either a thinly disguised advertisement, a chain-store roundup, or a rehash of the same five tourist-trap cafés. We wanted something better — a directory built by people who actually drink the coffee.

What "specialty" means to us

We use the word the way roasters use it: green coffee that scores 80+ on the SCA scale, roasted by people who care about origin, traceability and process, and brewed by baristas who treat extraction as a craft. In practice that means independent shops that pour from named roasters, offer at least one filter or pour-over option, and can tell you where the beans came from without checking a card.

How shops make the list

We start with a wide net — every coffee-related business Google Places knows about — and then we filter aggressively. Shops are classified by what they actually serve (espresso, filter, third-wave, chain, takeaway-only) using a combination of structured review data, on-site signals from each shop's website, and editor review. Anything that reads like a generic café, a fast-food chain, or a "coffee and donuts" stop gets removed.

Toggling the "curated specialty only" filter on the Discover page narrows results to shops we have personally vetted as third-wave or filter-coffee focused.

Editorial independence

We don't accept payment to add a shop, change a rating, or move a listing up the page. Sponsored placements — when they exist — are always clearly labelled as Sponsored and never affect the curated list. Display advertising on the site funds hosting and data costs; ad revenue plays no role in editorial decisions.

Who runs it

Brew Me Slowly is a small editorial project run by a coffee obsessive who has spent the last decade hunting down the kind of cup worth crossing a city for. If you'd like to contribute a shop, correct a listing, or just argue about Ethiopian naturals, the contact page is open.
